Environmental & Health & Safety Officer
Reporting to the site Engineering Manager:
- Providing direction to the facility on EHS&E activities
- Setting vision and strategy
- To ensure that the highest standards of Environmental Health and
Safety and Energy are maintained throughout the plants in an ever
changing business environment.
- To foster a culture of continuous improvement
- To ensure compliance with all relevant EHS&E legislation and
develop systems and procedures that optimizes safety, health and
- Development of systems for attainment of ISO14001 and                                     OHSAS18001 systems
- Create/Maintain an effective management system.
- Ensure EHS compliance with safety and environmental legislation,
procedures and standards by ensuring all required documentation is
up to date and readily available.
- Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for EHS performance        and compliance.
- Data management to review and trend incidents and producing
documents (policies, risk assessments, procedures, manuals,
statements, checklists, etc.)
- Management of risk assessments, site plans, training and awareness
campaigns, monthly safety bulletins, safety alerts etc. with the
- Investigate all employee related H&S incidents, spills, releases to the
environment and near misses, provide follow-up of corrective actions
and ensure close out
- Play a leading role in remedial actions associated with all EHS&E           related accidents/incidents
- Assist in the co-ordination of contractors where there is an EHS&E
impact, and in accordance with legislation.
- Ensure permit completion in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Ensure implementation of the waste management strategy,
continually striving to reduce impact on the environment.
- Co-ordinate inspections by regulatory bodies as required.
- The identification of H&S training needs for employees and to
develop and ensure delivery of training (e.g. manual handling, VDU
assessments, fire extinguisher training, fire warden training, safety
committee member training).
- Management and administration of safety system
and  health  monitoring, (fire drills, noise surveys, air quality testing, fire
detection systems, hearing testing)
Leadership and Management competencies
- Proactive in identifying positive and negative acts, ability to follow
through with realistic corrective and preventive actions.
- Educate and engage employees promoting continuous improvement
in all environmental and safety matters.
- Ensure employees report any work-related injuries or illness.
- Promote, implement and participate in safety committees.
- Participate in staff meetings in which EHS is part of the agenda.
- Ensure EHS audits are conducted, and all issues effectively closed
- Regular site walks to make it easy and practical for employees to
sustain the desired H&S behaviors, including advice/support and
pragmatic approach on solving safety issues
- Carry out workstation assessment program.
- Deliver EHS Training Courses and employee induction.
- Close contact with personnel at all levels, both within the plant and at      division level.
- Regular meetings with the Engineering Manager.
- A wide range of confidential data is handled, e.g. regulatory
submissions, audit reports, market information, employee information.
- Third level qualification in an Environmental Science / Occupational,      safety and health or related discipline is a necessary requirement for      this position
- Experience in a manufacturing environment and machinery safety an      advantage
- A minimum of 3 years EHS work experience
- Working knowledge of EHS related legislation and industry best              practices
- Excellent communication / interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiastic and energetic with the ability to integrate quickly into a        team environment
- Self -starter with proven ability to work on own initiative.
