Description

 

Our client is a major multinational company which develops a wide range of cutting edge automotive technology for most of the major car manufacturers.  Employing over 60,000 staff in 28 countries worldwide, they are the market leaders in their field.

At their Galway (Ireland) site they research, design and manufacture innovative camera systems to improve both safety and driving comfort.  Due to the company's rapid expansion and growing order book they urgently require an R&D project team manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all R&D function activities are delivered in accordance with CIP Handbook:
  • A PTM represents his/her function on the project and the project in his/her function
  • Contributors to the project are identified during Phase 0 based on the need, workload and skill requirements:
    • From Finance, sales, Supply Chain, SQA, APU, R&D
    • An Associated Project Manager or a Supplier project manager when required.
  • PTMs are empowered by their functions to manage their respective Contributors assigned by their department manager. They are responsible for the detailed scheduling and budgeting of their work, as well as for performing their activities following function procedures and efficiency plan.
  • The R&D PTM is responsible for:
  • Management of R&D project team members and contributors
  • Delivery of robust product to customer on time and within budget to agreed quality objectives.
  • R&D elements of Project scope, timing, risk & quality
  • Management of R&D Sub Suppliers
  • Project investments and development costs
  • Estimation of R&D resource needs and development workload
  • Resolution of conflicts of interests
  • Technical interface to customer in relation to R&D topics
  • Work with project management to prepare and organise project planning for cross functional input and scheduling.
  • Applies standardisation rules and verification of new standards if appropriate.
  • Planning and execution of design reviews in accordance with R&D development processes and CIP handbook.
  • Manage customer technical expectations regarding the product
  • Daily project team interfacing and communication
  • Identifying cross-project issues and working with R&D technical leads and management to identify and implement solutions
  • Manage commercial and technical relations with external resources participating in project activity
  • Support Product Marketing and Business Development activities as required
  • Contribute to the identification of the project needs in terms of resources, equipment and investments.
  • Regular interaction and awareness of P2 deliverables and standard developments


Requirements

  • A relevant Technical Engineering Degree e.g. Mechanical/Electronics/Software Engineering

·         Minimum 5 years experience in an Engineering / Technical Project Management role

  • Experience in managing cross functional engineering teams desirable
  • Proven ability to deliver technical projects on time and within budget
  • Good team player with proven leadership ability
  • Excellent people management skills 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confident, articulate, self motivated, determined, energetic
  • Experience with vision products an advantage
  • Experience in the automotive industry will be an advantage
  • Ability to be able to react/respond quickly to issues and be able to &lsquothink on your feet&rsquo
